An Introduction to Sulis
Share
On the 21st of April, Suzie gave a talk on Sulis at a West Byfleet Moot event. In attendance were people who had never heard of Sulis, all the way to people who had extensively researched her. It's fair to say that everybody came away with something to think about!
Due to the relatively small number of the people in attendance, we had time for reflections and conversation after the event. Suzie brought out some source material during the talk which was also of great interest. We discussed some of the insights from the talk that we hadn't heard before, and this led to some wider conversations about the role of societies and demographics within in the movement of Goddesses across lands, the limitations and uses of linguistic analysis and toponymy when conducting research, and the role that springs and rivers played in the lives of our forefathers.
The questions and reflections that people have are always really valuable across the different talks we've seen Suzie give, and I often note the way that this allows an audience to expand and deepen their learning, as well as to connect more with the talk.
To complement the talk, we had some selected snacks and bakes (made by Rowan), all of which had some sort of connection or link made to Sulis. These were accompanied by a little booklet explaining the choices and rationale.

Suzie’s next talk will be at The Wylde Spirit Camp in The New Forest on Monday May 25th entitled "The English Goddess Project", where she will explain some of the events and background leading up to its formation and what its aims are, and future plans.
Day tickets are available for the event, as are full weekend camping tickets.
Suzie will also be giving another talk on "Traditions of The Green Man and other foliate heads", currently scheduled for Sunday May 24th.
